By law, each Buffalo Gold Coin contains one troy ounce of 24 Karat gold. Each coin is legal tender, bearing a $50 face value and the inscriptions– 1 OZ, .9999 Fine Gold, E Pluribus Unum, Liberty and In God We Trust.
Proven Collector Demand
A commemorative U.S. Silver Dollar was released in 2001 using a similar Buffalo and Indian design and containing .77 troy ounces of silver. The U.S. Mint began accepting orders for the Buffalo Silver Dollar coins on June 7, 2001. By June 21, the entire issue of 500,000 coins was sold out completely!
